Although we’ve entered the fourth month of the year, people are still jumping ships as if there’s no tomorrow. Unlike generation-X, the ambitious generation-Y (and soon generation-Z) would not think twice about quitting and hop to other companies, as long as the pay is good. They realize how dumb it would be to stay loyal while their companies wouldn’t blink an eye about laying off their supposedly loyal employees.
As the saying goes, life is like a box of chocolates and employment is like a bus stand. After some time, you just gotta take a bus to another bus stand and the process continues. And there’s no guarantee that your company wouldn’t retrench you, let alone the prospect of pay raise or promotions, regardless of how talented you are. Hence, when you get the chance to join a MNC, ask for the sky – it’s purely business, nothing personal.
You’ve heard about how fresh graduates and experienced people fighting tooth and nail to get into giant tech companies, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Adobe or Google. Or top financial institutions such as JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs, or consultancy firms such as McKinsey. But unlike getting a job at McDonald’s or Hewlett Packard, the hiring manager at top employers does not ask boring routine questions during job interview.
How would you respond when you’re being asked “Who would win a fight between Spiderman and Batman?” or simply “What did you have for breakfast?” You smell rats and tons of tricks, don’t you? Well, there’re many reasons behind such weird job interview questions, from psychology test to job expectations, or simply to see if you could produce unique answers from the rest of the candidates.
Last year, Goldman Sachs asked a candidate “How many square feet of pizza is eaten in the US each year?” Meanwhile, McKinsey asked “If you were 80 years old, what would you tell your children?” And if you were hoping to get a job at Apple because you love iPhone, the question asked was “If you were a pizza deliveryman how would you benefit from scissors?”. So what were some top questions asked this year, as compiled by Glassdoor?
