While the Western countries, especially the Europe, are trembling in fear after the Brussels Attacks, it was celebration elsewhere. As usual, European cities’ landmarks were lit up with Belgium flag colours after screaming tons of condemnations and pledging “solidarity” with the Belgian people.
Not only ISIS supporters have been cheering the terror attacks in Brussels, they’ve also resorted to polling a terrible question – “What will be the color of the Eiffel Tower in the next attacks?” The winner – London, United Kingdom. Clearly, both Paris and Brussels attacks could be avoided if the correct policies were adopted. Nonetheless, here’re at least nine mind-blowing facts about the Brussels Attacks.
{ 1 } The Importance of Brussels
In terms of casualties, Paris Attacks were more deadly than Brussels Attacks – 130 people killed in France as compared to 34 in Belgium. But the city of Brussels is more important from another perspective. Brussels is the headquarters of the NATO and defence ministers from 49 countries gathered here to discuss about a possible ground invasion of Syria.
Brussels is considered the de-facto capital of the European Union. That’s right, despite the glamorous brand of EU, it actually doesn’t have an official capital. In a way, the attacks on the city is a major victory to ISIS because it was like attacking NATO and EU – 2-in-1 – hence a huge insult to the Western countries.
{ 2 } Psychology Win For Donald Trump
The Republican presidential candidate’s journey to the White House couldn’t be smoother than after the Brussels Attacks. With ease, Trump told the American voters how Brussels is a classic example of what he wanted to avoid in the United States. The triple bombing in Belgium means what Trump has been trumpeting makes tons of common sense now.
Trump who has made immigration and security issues central to his 2016 presidential bid tweeted – “Do you all remember how beautiful and safe a place Brussels was. Not anymore, it is from a different world! U.S. must be vigilant and smart!”. He continued his tweet – “I have proven to be far more correct about terrorism than anybody.”
{ 3 } The Secret of 322
People remember numbers easily so 9/11 is the most important date when one talks about the deadliest terrorist attacks on American soil. Paris Attacks last year happened on 13 November and the latest attacks happened on 22 March. If one really wanted to link the Brussels Attacks with numerology, 322 has its fair share of tales.
The number 322 is associated with “Skull and Bones”, which coincidently is an undergraduate secret society at Yale University, of which its members include former President George W. Bush, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Morgan Stanley co-founder Harold Stanley. When asked, George W. Bush said – “It’s so secret I can’t say anything more.”
{ 4 } Obama Talks For (Only) 51-Seconds
The Brussels Attacks occured while President Barack Obama was in Cuba, letting himself humiliated by Cuban President Raul Castro who didn’t bother to greet him when he landed in Havana, despite being the first U.S. president to visit Cuba in 88 years. Yes, Obama spent only 51-seconds (less than a minute) talking about the attacks.
While the world leaders attended the Paris Rally after the deadly attacks last year, Obama decided to stay at home watching football. This round is no different. The POTUS decided to attend a Major League Baseball exhibition game in Cuba between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cuban National Team, while the Belgians and the world were still in shock after the attacks.
{ 5 } Terrorist Hotbed – Belgium, Brussels, Molenbeek
Do you know that Belgium is the largest terrorist breeding ground in Europe? And do you know the terrorist group openly breeds in the fertile capital of Brussels? But you didn’t know these terrorists live happily in the district of Molenbeek despite Belgian authorities knowing about their existence and activities but had done nothing to stop them, do you?
In fact, the Belgian military intelligence and security services were so incompetent and pathetic that a senior U.S. intelligence officer, frustrated and angry, has likened the Belgian security forces to “children”. The Belgian counterterrorism was not only “non pro-active” and didn’t know what’s going on; they were also in deep “denial”.
{ 6 } Suicide Bomber Brothers Were Small Time Criminals
Suicide bomber Ibrahim El Bakraoui and his brother Khalid may be misunderstood as barbarian terrorists who won’t think twice about slitting someone’s throat. Surprisingly, both have never been convicted of terrorism. Ibrahim had been given a 9-year sentence in 2010 after a gunfight with police for taking part in a bungled robbery at a Western Union office.
Meanwhile, younger brother Khalid was a convicted carjacker, receiving a 5-year sentence 2011. Although both brothers (both Belgian nationals) had long criminal records, they had not so far been associated with terrorism. Their roles were limited to renting flat, providing ammunition and weapons to ISIS terrorists during the Paris Attacks.
{ 7 } This Guy Survives Boston, Paris & Brussels Attacks
You may want to plan your holidays with, or without him (pick your choice). An American Mormon missionary – 19-year-old Mason Wells – was injured with Richard Norby, 66, and Joseph Empey, 20, fellow members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when two bombs exploded in Zaventem airport on Tuesday morning.
Amazingly, Wells, from Utah, had a similarly close call 3 years ago on April 15, 2013 while in Boston accompanying his mother who was running the marathon, when a terror attack left three killed and wounded scores more. His family was also in Paris last November, although in a different part of the city, when the French capital was rocked by a series of attacks.
{ 8 } Suicide Bomber Once Arrested In Turkey, Deported Back To Belgium
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed Ibrahim El Bakraoui, who yesterday blew himself up at Brussels Airport, was arrested in Gaziantep in southern Turkey close to the Syrian border last summer. The Turkish authorities then deported him to Holland before being passed back over to Belgium – with “warning what he was a militant”.
Amusingly, the Belgian authorities had failed to confirm the suspect’s links to terrorism so the soon-to-be-suicide-bomber walked off scot free. After Ibrahim blew himself up, his brother, Khalid, detonated his suicide vest on a Brussels Metro train at Maelbeek station killing 20 people.
{ 9 } ISIS Has Sent 400 Fighters To Attack Europe
After the Brussels Attacks, intelligence officials from Europe and Iraq reveal that at least 400 trained fighters have been sent to attack Europe, deploying interlocking terror cells like the ones that struck Brussels and Paris. The mission and order: to choose the time, place and method for maximum carnage.
Before being killed in a police raid, the ringleader of the November 13 Paris attacks claimed he had entered Europe in a multinational group of 90 fighters, who scattered “more or less everywhere.” And the objective appears to no longer limit to be killing as many people as possible but also to have as many terror operations as possible.
