Fresh from sending 85 bunker-buster bombs that killed terrorist organization Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Israel publicly announced on Tuesday (Oct 1) that it has begun a “limited ground offensive” into southern Lebanon. The IDF (Israel Defense Forces), of course, were already inside Lebanon conducting a series of operations even before the announcement.

In fact, Israel reveals that it has been secretly conducting raids into Lebanon for the past 11 months in preparation for a ground incursion. The IDF carried out at least 70 cross-border raids (in teams of 20-40 soldiers) into southern Lebanon since November last year, and spent over 200 days behind enemy lines. The goal was to collect information and destroy Hezbollah weapons and military infrastructure.

The “limited, localised and targeted” raids against Hezbollah are particularly crucial after tunnels – filled with weapons – were found in villages along the Israel-Lebanon border which Hezbollah forces planned to use to infiltrate into Israel. To save face, Hezbollah, whose chains of command is destroyed and network of communication is crippled, denies Israeli troops have entered the country.

Israel Launches Limited Ground Offensive Into Lebanon

Hezbollah had to pretend there have been no direct clashes between its militants and Israels forces because it is still in disarray and demoralized after the death of its leader Nasrallah. The Iran-backed group, which prides itself for fighting Israel to a standstill and withdrawal from Lebanon in 2006, now appears badly outmaneuvered by a technologically superior enemy that has assassinated dozens of its top leaders.

With its underground command headquarters reduced to rubble and dust, and without Nasrallah to give orders, Hezbollah operatives are running around like a headless chicken. Even the Lebanese troops pulled back from positions along Lebanon’s southern border with Israel to about 5km north of the border, with zero interest to stop the Israeli forces from entering its territories.

As Israeli military forces continue air strikes on Lebanon, targeting militant sites linked to Hezbollah, it has also simultaneously launched a series of air raids on Houthi targets in Yemen – targeting fuel facilities, power plants and docks at the Ras Issa and Hodeidah ports. After firing at Israel for months, both Iranian-backed Hezbollah and Houthi now finally get a taste of the Israelis firepower.

Israel Attacks Yemen Ports

The air attacks on Yemen was to send not only a message that Israel could easily hit its enemy more than 2,000-km away, but also to shut down seaports “which are used to import oil and transfer Iranian weapons for military use by the Houthi terrorist regime”. It was so badly hit that the newly crowned Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, comically argues that Israel should not be allowed to attack Iran-aligned groups one after the other.

A day after Hamas’s October 7 massacre, Hezbollah terrorists began attacking across the Blue Line – a boundary drawn by the United Nations after Israeli forces withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000. U.N. Resolution 1701, passed during Israel and Hezbollah’s last war in 2006, established that Hezbollah would have no armed presence in southern Lebanon.

Now, the lsraeli’s incursion – Operation “Northern Arrow” – is launched to partly enforce that peace deal that ended a 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. This is to create a buffer zone to stop Hezbollah attacks that have forced some 60,000 Israeli people from their homes in the north of Israel. Residents of about 30 villages in southern Lebanon have been told to evacuate to the north of the Awali River, nearly 35 miles from the Blue Line.

Israel Lebanon - Blue Line Map

Having moved hundreds of tanks and other armour vehicles along the Lebanese border, you can bet your last dollar that a ground invasion is inevitable. Lebanon’s prime minister, Najib Mikati, could only issue an “urgent call” for more aid to help support them, not threatening to retaliate against the Israeli forces. Clearly, the Lebanese government wants to stay neutral, and let Israel and Hezbollah fight each other.

But the main juice of the latest conflict in Lebanon isn’t about Hezbollah anymore.  The loss of so many top-level leadership has disrupted Hezbollah’s ability to make key executive decisions. Even if the terror group could re-group and re-organize, it would take years to rebuild its network. Nasrallah’s 32-year reign had made him irreplaceable and Tehran complacent.

In comparison, Singapore Lee Kuan Yew held the record as the world’s longest-serving prime minister with a term of 31 years (1959-1990). Hassan Nasrallah beats the “founding father” of modern Singapore by one year. While Mr Lee would continue to serve as Minister Mentor for another 7 years (2004-2011), Mr Nasrallah “suffocated in agony” to death from toxic fumes inside his bunker after Israel’s 80-ton bomb strike.

Hezbollah Terror Group - Leader Hassan Nasrallah Terminated

The main juice is a rare speech by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (Sept 30), which he delivered directly to the people of Iran. He said – “When Iran is finally free – and that moment will come a lot sooner than people think – everything will be different. Our two ancient peoples, the Jewish people and the Persian people, will finally be at peace. Our two countries, Israel and Iran, will be at peace.”

Bibi said – “When that day comes, the terror network that the regime built in five continents will be bankrupt, dismantled. Iran will thrive as never before. Global investment. Massive tourism. Brilliant technological innovation based on the tremendous talents that exists inside Iran. Doesn’t that sound better than endless poverty, repression and war?”

Concludes Netanyahu – “Don’t let a small group of fanatic theocrats crush your hopes and your dreams. You deserve better. Your children deserve better. The entire world deserves better. I know you don’t support the rapists and murderers of Hamas and Hezbollah, but your leaders do. You deserve more. The people of Iran should know – Israel stands with you. May we together know a future of prosperity and peace.”

Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

It’s not rocket science that the Israel leader is suggesting a regime change in Iran, and the rare message was to prepare the Iranians for a new era. But for a regime change to happen, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei must be dismantled. And the only way to do that is to eliminate him, the same way Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas former leader Ismail Haniyeh were killed.

There are two ways to take out Khamenei, who is now hiding in his own bunker. Either Israel drops the similar bunker-buster bombs which killed Nasrallah, or activate moles or spies inside Tehran to assassinate him. The best way and most dramatic method to assassinate the Iranian supreme leader are to use the spies planted by Israel inside his own trusted circle.

Yes, Ali Khamenei is now constantly looking over his shoulders over the possibilities that he may be assassinated like Haniyeh, who was killed by none other than Iranian’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has just revealed that the head of a secret service unit tasked with countering Israeli espionage in Iran was himself an Israeli spy.

Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Assassination - Israel Spy

Ahmadinejad told CNN Turk in an interview – “Israel organised complex operations inside Iran. They could easily obtain information. In Iran they are still silent about this. The man who was in charge of the unit in Iran against Israel was an Israeli agent”. The best part was that an additional 20 agents within the Iranian intelligence team tasked with monitoring Israeli intelligence activities were also working for Mossad.

According to Ahmadinejad, these double agents were responsible for providing Israel with sensitive information on Iran’s nuclear program. The theft of Iranian nuclear documents in 2018 had led to the killing of several Iranian nuclear scientists. Former Iranian intelligence minister Ali Younesi similarly said Israeli spies had planted themselves in the top echelons of power in the Islamic Republic.

Younesi had said in an interview in 2021 – “The Mossad has infiltrated many government departments in the last 10 years, to such a degree that all the country’s top officials should fear for their lives”. The death of Nasrallah has sparked suspicion and distrust among Hezbollah operatives that he had been betrayed by his own people, who are actually Israel spies.

Israel vs Iran - War

But even if Israel has no immediate plan to assassinate the Iranian supreme leader and prefers to focus in Lebanon, Iran’s latest barrage of about 180 ballistic missiles, which the regime claims included hypersonic weapons, at Israel on Tuesday (Oct 1) could see a “surprise gift” for Ali Khamenei. Netanyahu said his country would respond to Iran’s attack – “Iran made a big mistake tonight – and it will pay for it.”

The hilarious part is this. Iran telegraphed to Arab officials on Monday night that it was going to launch an attack on Israel that would be similar in scale to April. The Arab messenger boys then informed Israel, who in turn sent messages back to Iran that it would respond to any hit on Israeli territory, no matter how small or large. Israel specifically said it would directly hit Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities.

With Israel gaining momentum from the destruction of Hezbollah network and Nasrallah, it’s foolish to think it would not retaliate. Iran’s attack gives Israel reason to hit back directly on Iranian territory, which could spark a regional war and skyrocketing oil prices. But Tehran had no choice, but to retaliate to save face, throwing a bone to its gullible domestic audience and whatever left of Hamas and Hezbollah militants to cheer.

Iran’s attack, which is a slightly larger attack than April’s barrage of about 110 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles, saw most of the missiles shot down by Israeli sophisticated Iron Dome defence system, even though the Iran’s IRGC insisted 90% of projectiles had hit their targets. Only a Palestinian was killed by falling rocket debris. But the Mullah has a bigger headache – where to hide and who to trust.
