Momentum appears to be shifting towards Donald Trump in the upcoming U.S. election, if polling numbers are any indicator. With about 2 weeks to go (November 5), the 2024 Presidential Election continues to be the closest of the century. Surveys show extremely tight margin between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

 

While Harris has erased Trump’s lead over President Joe Biden since announcing her candidacy on July 21, her edge has been decreasing over the past 3 months. While some polls claim she still has a five-point advantage, others found Trump has turned the table by leading 50% over Harris’s 48%. This is bad news to Democrats as the history may repeat itself.

 

About eight years ago, less than two weeks before Election Day, Hillary Clinton too held a clear lead in the polls. Not only was Clinton leading Trump nationally by nearly six points, even Trump campaign admitted that they had just a 15% chance of winning. Yet, Trump pulled a stunning victory, winning the Electoral College with 304 votes compared to 227 votes for Hillary Clinton.

If there is one brilliant thing Donald Trump is good at, it has to do with his ability to connect with American voters. Just when the clueless Harris thought she could easily eat Trump for lunch, the man who earned US$197 million directly from appearing on reality TV show “The Apprentice” between 2004 and 2015 has just pulled yet another rabbit from the hat.

 

He visited a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania on Sunday (Oct 20), asked for a job (something like in the Apprentice storyline) and was promptly approved. Trump said to the owner of the McDonald’s in Feasterville-Trevose – “I’m looking for a job. And I’ve always wanted to work at McDonald’s, but I never did. I’m running against somebody that said she did, but it turned out to be a totally phony story.”

 

Trump jokingly asked how much he would be paid, only for the restaurant owner, Derek Giacomantonio, asking how much Trump would pay him instead (for allowing the ex-president to do the stunt). He then swapped his suit jacket for an apron to work as a fry attendant. But before he started his job, he took some time to troll and bash his opponent Kamala Harris over her summer job at the fast-food chain.

Ever since Kamala Harris mentioned in campaign ads and interviews about her experience working at McDonald’s as a student in 1983 – obviously to impress upon working-class voters who may give extra points to a future president who knows the fatigue of low-wage, service sector jobs – Trump has repeatedly accused the vice president of lying, largely because it wasn’t stated in her resume.

 

But Mr Trump, who has already won admiration from his army of fans for being a rich man who connects with the average Joes and Janes through his favourite meals of Filet-o-Fish sandwiches, Big Macs and shake, has cleverly used Harris’ summer job at McDonald’s to beat her by creating a powerful image that he’s the only future president who worked at McDonald’s during the campaign.

 

It doesn’t matter whether Harris had worked at the American iconic fast-food chain or not. It’s not hard to convince voters that Harris was lying simply because she has not produced evidence she worked there. Trump, on the other hand, can prove that he has just serve French fries to people of Feasterville-Trevose in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, northeast of Philadelphia.

And the people were thrilled – even electrified – at the sight of “President Trump” serving food through the drive-thru window at the restaurant. Looking spectacular in McDonald’s apron over his dress shirt and tie, Trump deliberately told a drive-thru customer and a crowd of reporters through the drive-thru window – “I’ve now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala. She never worked here.”

 

During the crash course, he was seen eagerly learning how to fry the restaurant’s iconic french fries, listening attentively as a McDonald’s employee demonstrated the process. “It takes skill to do it right and fast,” – Trump remarked with a grin as he received several tutorials from employees about how to operate the fry cooker and work the drive-thru. “I wouldn’t mind this job. I think I might come back and do it again,” – said Trump.

 

A ”very superstitious” Donald Trump also threw salt over his shoulder in an apparent attempt to ward off evil spirits ahead of the November 5 election day. He appeared to be enjoying himself in frying fries, salting them and scooping them into boxes as camera documented the historical moment, which has since spread like wildfire on the Internet and social media.

Among the drive-thru customers was an Indian national, who greeted Trum with a cheerful “namaste”, who was accompanied by a woman in the passenger seat. As the former POTUS handed him the order while shaking his hand, the excited customer exclaimed – “Thank you, Mr. President! You made it possible for ordinary people like us to be here.” The lady, meanwhile, said – “Thank you for taking the bullet for us.”

 

Of course, Kamala team has mocked the stunt as nothing but a photo opportunity designed to boost Trump’s rating. In fact, the McDonald’s restaurant was actually closed to the public. The customers Mr Trump served were pre-screened by U.S. Secret Service. A sign had been put up at the franchise informing locals that the restaurant would be closed until 4pm, and apologising for the inconvenience. 

 

Still, it only makes sense for the customers to be pre-screened after 78-year-old Trump suffered multiple assassination attempts, the first being at a campaign rally in the same state three months ago. Last month another man was arrested near his Florida golf course and charged with another attempted assassination. A third man was arrested near a Trump rally in California last week for a third assassination attempt.

But Trump didn’t lie about his love for the junk food. During his 2016 campaign, his former bodyguard Keith Schiller would routinely go to the McDonald’s near the Marine Air Terminal in Queens while Trump waited in the limousine. Egg McMuffins were often his morning order, and two quarter-pounders (with cheese, no pickles, extra ketchup) and a large fries and an apple pie later in the day.

 

After winning the requisite number of GOP delegates needed to secure the party’s 2016 presidential nomination, Trump was photographed eating a McDonald’s Big Mac on his private jet. There’s a compelling reason why McTrump cooked food, bagged fries, worked the drive-thru, and roasted Kamala for her McLies – as massive Pennsylvanians gathered outside the McDonald’s before Trump’s arrival.

 

According to McDonald’s most recent study, 20% of its restaurant staff is Black and 35% of their co-workers are Hispanic, two groups that can deliver a victory for Kamala Harris. If Trump could capture 25% Black votes and swing 50% Hispanic votes, Harris would be in trouble. Already, Barack Obama, the nation’s first Black president, is doing more harm than good campaigning for Harris.

 

 

Desperate, Obama showed his racism during his last week’s speech on the presidential campaign trail in Pittsburgh. Lecturing Black Americans, he “berated, rebuked and scolded black men” for not supporting “madam lock-up-a-brother Kamala Harris” in the 2024 presidential race. He even accused Black men of “coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses” for not turning out in support of Harris.

In retaliation to disgusting race-hatred politics promoted by Obama, angry young black men said they would vote for Trump, questioning what had Obama or Harris done for the black people. Trump happily mocked Harris – “Obama admits a total lack of enthusiasm for Kamala, especially with Black Men. I think Obama will be voting for me because he doesn’t like the fact that Kamala is an extremely Low IQ Person!”
